The types of products used in the field of insulation are increasing day by day due to the increase in the number of alternative products. Although petroleum-based foam products, which are in the status of alternative products, have been preferred in recent years, there has been an increase in the number of projects that return to the use of stone wool, which gives much more successful results than traditional methods.
In the field of insulation, the most important insulation plates that offer the possibility of using and mounting in different forms; manifests itself as rockwool products and glasswool products.
Stone Wool
Stonewool insulation boards, in different parts of the world. It ranks first in the list of products that are used and offer high insulation performance in various climatic conditions. Rockwool, which is preferred in many projects due to its natural structure, is one of the products that was discovered by chance, approximately 150 years ago, by following natural events.
Rockwool, which was discovered by the basalt stones, which were formed in solid form on earth as a result of volcanic eruptions, were thrown around as a filamentous substance by the wind when exposed to high heat, is included in the group of products that have the capacity to be produced in different forms due to the natural mineral and inorganic substances in its structure.
Glass Wool
Glass wool is frequently preferred in the sector as another insulation product that is as common as stone wool. It is possible to use for similar purposes between the two products. It has some differences due to the glass wool production model.
By converting inorganic raw materials at 1200ºC – 1250ºC Glasswool, which is formed by turning it into a fiber state, is produced by adding wool structures that enable glass fibers to adhere to each other.
Difference Between Stone Wool and Glass Wool
For the reasons explained; Although it is seen that they are used for the same purposes, there are some basic differences between the two products. These differences are;
Glasswool inorganic raw materials between 1200 – 1250 degrees when produced in fiber form; Rockwool, on the other hand, is produced by turning inorganic raw materials into fibers between 1350 – 1400 degrees.
Due to this reason; Glasswool Usage temperature -50 / +250 ºC; in rockwool, the usage temperature is between -50/+600, -50/+650°C.
Due to its density and raw material differences: glass wool; In the attic insulation, by laying on the floor, suspended ceiling. It is used in thermal insulation on, floor coverings, between two-floor sections or in partition applications;
Stonewool; It is easily used in projects such as Roof insulation, Wall insulation, Floor insulation, Installation insulation, Industrial insulation, Technical insulation, Sound insulation, Exterior jacketing, Oven insulation, Fire insulation, Cold room insulation, Auto insulation.
